Message from the URI President

At the University of Rhode Island, we are committed to building a new culture for learning, a community in which motivated students join outstanding faculty members practicing their professions. The work we do together serves Rhode Island, America, and the world, melding our missions of teaching, research, service and outreach.

Outreach is at the core of our historic role as Rhode Island's land grant, sea grant and urban grant university. Today, we bring both research and well prepared graduates to the people of our state so that Rhode Islanders can better live and compete in an age when knowledge is the strategic resource required for success.

URI has particular strengths in marine and environmental programs, in pharmacy, engineering, business, accounting, and more. Three of Rhode Island's Centers for Excellence--Ocean Technology, Sensors and Surface Technology, and Environmental Biotechnology--are located at URI. Our partnerships for forensic sciences, coastal management, vector born diseases, health promotion and others are vehicles to connect Rhode Island business and agencies with our faculty and some of our most promising students.
