Here are some frequently asked questions about ticketing and towing at URI.
Q. What is the general policy for ticketing on campus?
A. Refer to Rules & Regulations for violations which would warrant a state ticket.
Q. Are all tickets issued at URI considered state tickets?
A. Yes, and these tickets carry the same penalties. Vehicle registration and license suspension will apply to the registered owner of the vehicle for non payment.
Q. If I receive a ticket for being parked illegally, will I automatically get towed?
A. If your vehicle is parked illegally, it is subject to ticketing and towing.
Q. How do I avoid parking illegally?
A. First you must register your vehicle with URI. Then obtain a URI Campus Parking Map and park in your designated area. DO NOT ask friends, RA's, faculty, or staff members where to park. Ask a URI parking officer or call Parking Services at (401) 874-9281 if you have questions.
Q. IF my car does get towed, how do I go about getting it back?
A. Call Parking Services at (401) 874-9281. We can tell you what company has towed your vehicle and supply you with their phone number.
Q. How do I pay a parking ticket that I received at URI?
A. You can send a check or money order only to:

Q. Do I send cash to pay for my ticket?
A. NO, YOU CANNOT SEND CASH. RITT can not match the cash with the ticket. Your check or money order is your receipt that you paid your ticket.
Q. Do I pay for my ticket by sending or giving the money to URI Parking Services?
A. NO, the ONLY place that will accept money for your parking ticket is the Rhode Island Traffic Tribunal (RITT).
Q. Do I need to write anything special on the check that I am sending to RITT when paying for my parking ticket?
A. Yes, you need to write the summons number that is in the top right hand corner of the ticket on the check.
Q. What if I want to contest the ticket?
A. There is a court date in the bottom right hand corner of each ticket issued by parking officers. You can go to court on the date listed to contest a ticket. ONLY the registered owner of the vehicle may contest a ticket in court.
Q. What happens to the ticket after it is written?
A. The original copy is sent to the Rhode Island Traffic Tribunal (RITT). A copy is left on the vehicle and another copy is sent to the registered owner of the vehicle.
Q. Does the University of Rhode Island receive money for the tickets issued on campus?
A. No, the University does not receive any money for the tickets. The fines go to the state of Rhode Island.
