I am a first year grad student at the University of Rhode Island in the School of Library and Information Studies. I first became
interested in library studies when I was an undergraduate student. As I was always a fan of libraries, I found myself
spending hours in the library. (Both for school and for pleasure.) I enjoyed the process of researching so much I found myself
researching topics just because I knew how. So, after searching for careers that involved the research process, but not the writing,
I fell into library studies!
Where I'm from...
Although born in northern California, my family moved to Michigan shortly thereafter. When I was 6, my family moved again down to
the great state of Texas. There I lived for almost 20 years before realizing that the only corner of the States I had not lived was
the East coast. I was raised in the suburbs of Houston, Texas about a 5 minute drive away from the Johnson Space Center - NASA. (Needless to say
the space program has influenced my life in many, many ways.)
And what's important to me?
Family. My number one priority in my life always has been and always will be, my family. I was the youngest of 5 kids with an age span of only
8 years. When I was 16, my oldest sister was married and since then my family has not stopped growing. As of today, I have 2 sisters, 2 brothers,
2 sister-in-laws, 2 brother-in-laws, 4 nieces and 3 nephews. (My friends joke that if ever there was a population crisis, the government could look
to my family to repopulate the Earth!)
I am also lucky enough to have a wonderful boyfriend who was understanding in my dream to move to the East coast and pursue my master's degree.
We moved here in late August and have had a wonderful experience thus far. He is amazing and my life would not be complete without him!
What I do in my spare time?
As most people in this profession can agree, I think my biggest hobby is reading. I love it. I love reading all types of books. I am a huge fan
of the Harry Potter series, and have begun a collection of the first book in foreign languages. It began as a joke and has quickly spread into
a fun and entertaining collection!
I also enjoy sports... and usually playing vs. watching. I grew up playing competative soccer down South and have continued to play almost non-
stop since. (Yet, I haven't found teams up here yet, so if anyone has any recommendations, please let me know!)
Unfortunately, I am huge fan of television and find myself every new fall season finding more shows to get hooked on! Yet, a show that will always
remain near and dear to my heart is Joss Whedon's masterpiece of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I know, I know... I get teased constantly, but as I tell
everyone, "it really is a great series!"
