Assistant Professor of Terrestrial Remote Sensing

Ph.D., University of Connecticut, 1995

Dr. Wang's research interests are in terrestrial remote sensing and quantitative methods in natural resources analysis. Particular areas of interests include dynamic modeling of land-use and land-cover change using multispectral, multitemporal, multisensor remote sensing data, and GIS/GPS data; digital image processing and pattern recognition; artificial neural network and evidential reasoning models in multisource spatial data analysis, GIS database design and GIS applications. Currently he is working on his NASA funded projects "Multiple Innovative Models in Land Cover Change Study (Grant No.NAG58829) ", and "Investigation of Aerodynamic and Radiometric Land Surface Temperatures (Grant No. NAG58739)". He has recently finished a NASA funded research project entitled "Tracking Natural Community Fragmentation and Changes in Land Use and Land Cover: A Case Study of Chicago Wilderness (Grant No. GP37J), in which he developed land cover maps of northeastern Illinois in 1972, 1985, 997, and the quantitative analysis of urban land-cover changes in the metropolitan Chicago region. His main research focus is to develop modeling mechanisms to bridge the driving forces (both socioeconomic and natural factors) and the consequences of land cover changes so that the impacts of human-induced land-cover/landscape changes on the ecosystems can be more effectively modeled.

Dr. Wang teaches classes in terrestrial remote sensing. His Laboratory for Terrestrial Remote Sensing possesses the capacities in process and analysis of digital airborne and spaceborne remote sensing data.
