The Department of Pharmacy Practice is committed to excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service.  Through innovative teaching methods, the Department provides the skills necessary to foster critical thinking and the optimal use of medications, while promoting professionalism.

The graduate program trains students to conduct and advance health systems research.  The faculty and graduate students initiate and collaborate in research focusing on the improvement of patient care and public health while incorporating current research findings into daily practice.

The Department provides leadership and service to the University, the community, and healthcare professionals through the provision of patient care, educational activities, and participation in professional and governmental organizations.

Graduate Programs

Pharmacoepidemiology and Pharmacoeconomics
Health and economic outcomes research pertaining to pharmacotherapy as used in human populations. Specializations include medication adherence, decision and cost-effectiveness analyses, post-marketing surveillance, epidemiologic methods, and quality improvement and measurement.
 
Services
Drug Information Service
Provides healthcare practitioners with timely, evidence-based drug information to promote the safe, rational use of medications.
 
eHealth / eSalud
eHealth and eSalud websites provide the English and Spanish speaking communities with validated links to web based health care resources.
 
Healthcare Utilization and Management Center
The HUMC provides consultant pharmacy benefit management services to a variety of clients in the healthcare marketplace.
 
 
 
Experiential Learning
Overview
Information regarding the experiential components of the Pharm.D. curriculum
EMS
Educational Management System (EMS) is used to manage the Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experiences.

 
Residency Programs
Overview
Information about the residency programs offered by the college.
 
Coastal Medical Residency Program
 URI College of Pharmacy through a clinical partnership and provides an innovative training site for PharmD students and residents. Clinical pharmacists, Pharm.D. residents, and Pharm.D. students are integrated into the primary care of patients and collaborate with physicians to improve outcomes.
 

CVS Community Residency Program
CVS/pharmacy has designed a 12-month Community Pharmacy Residency that provides a unique opportunity for a resident to participate in the design, implementation and expansion of health education programs including the CVS Community Outreach Program.  Primarily focused on the role of a community pharmacist as a public educator, the resident will also assist in the development of pharmacist education programs that address the special communication skills necessary for counseling  patients.
