Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this program, participants will be able to:

  • Identify the current strategies of HIV/AIDS treatment;
  • List three major obstacles to participation in needle exchange programs (NEPS);
  • Discuss the status of the AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP) and HIV routine testing;
  • Explain how to maximize the interdisciplinary team approach to HIV care;
  • Describe the implications to patients of poor adherence to Highly Active Antiretroviral Therapy (HAART) medications;
  • Cite changes in the Rhode Island pharmacy law and statutes enacted in the 2008 legislative session;
  • State the specific regulatory changes related to controlled substances.
     

Target Audience

Community, hospital, managed care and consultant pharmacists, nurses, nurse practitioners, physicians and other interested healthcare professionals.

This program will provide the participant with 5.5 contact hours (0.55 CEUs) of continuing education credit (including 1 hour of law credit).

The University of Rhode Island College of Pharmacy is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education. Attendance and completion of evaluation forms and self-assessment tools at the conclusion of each session are required for statement of credit which will be mailed 3-4 weeks after the program.

Accreditation: This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essentials and Standards of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint sponsorship of the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University and the University of Rhode Island College of Pharmacy. The Alpert Medical School is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Credit Designation: The Alpert Medical School designates this educational activity for a maximum of 5.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Yale School of Nursing is an Approved Provider of Continuing Nursing Education by the Connecticut Nurses’ Association, an Accredited Approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
