Robert Hathaway
Criminalist II

Robert Hathaway has over thirty-three years of experience in firearms and toolmark examination. He graduated from Manchester Community College and then spent twenty-one and one-half years as a Connecticut State Trooper.  For sixteen and one-half of those years he was assigned to the Connecticut State Police Forensic Laboratory.  He has trained with the New York City Police Department Firearms Lab and the FBI.  He has also lectured to numerous colleges and law enforcement agencies and has written articles for publication in the Association of Firearms and Toolmark Examiner’s Journal. Robert has testified in court over two hundred fifty times and is well known for his participation and testimony during the re-examination of the James Earl Ray rifle in the Martin Luther King assassination at the request of the King family.

Robert has been employed by the Rhode Island State Crime Laboratory as a Firearms Examiner for seventeen years.
