Welcome to The University of Rhode Island College of Pharmacy. Whether you are a prospective student, parent, current student, alumnus or friend, we are glad you have taken time to visit our web site, and we appreciate your time spent exploring what is here. You have selected the site for one of the nation’s leading pharmacy colleges. Our work here in beautiful South county, at the state of Rhode Island flagship learning-oriented research institution, is extraordinary as you are likely to find out if you peruse our pages.
We offer a professional degree, the Doctor of Pharmacy or PharmD program, and Bachelor, Masters and Doctoral level degrees in the Pharmaceutical Sciences. In the PharmD program we admit students from high school into a relatively rare 0-6, vs. 2-4 format that allows students to transition to college life without excessive performance pressures in the first two years. We do however also get some of the best and brightest students desiring pharmacy as a career, and getting in to a seat limited program is difficult. We also offer a 2-4 transfer pathway for students who enter URI or come from an external college and meet the pre-professional curriculum requirements and performance we require.
We train students who are entering one of the world’s most trusted and honored professions. Pharmacists are expected to be ethical, law abiding, and most importantly trustworthy individuals. Pharmacists respect the privacy and the confidentiality of health information they are exposed to in their practice. They are caring, tolerant, compassionate, charitable and empathetic people who think most about what they can do to assist others in achieving the optimum results from their health care therapies. Pharmacists are expected to look, act and speak like professionals at all times, and we demand nothing less than that from our professional degree PharmD program students. We also expect that while here in college they will have fun while being professional, and keeping good taste and the rules of the College and profession in mind. We are committed to student success.
Our degrees in the Pharmaceutical Sciences bring students into contact with world leading researchers exploring solutions to many of society’s most pressing health care problems. You can find details of their work and the opportunities available to work with them on the pages of this site. We train these students for careers in research, in the development of drug products and for higher management in the pharmaceutical industry. Our alumni in graduate programs and in our professional degree program have gone on to important positions in global health care companies and positions in leading academic and government programs.
We care about student success in our College and in the profession. We are focused on students and learning, and we simultaneously bring our passion for leading edge scientific discovery to the classroom. You’ll find in the pages here information on our curriculum, how to gain admission, and what the latest news and developments are at the College. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to any one of our faculty or staff find here in our web pages if you need help or advice.
