BabySIM Drug Programming

Objective: To develop and integrate pharmacodynamic (PD) and pharmacokinetic (PK) models for specific drugs into a human infant patient simulator.

Step 1: Defining the Project

Develop the list of six drugs to be programmed for the BabySIM:

  • Atropine
  • Dopamine
  • Epinephrine
  • Fentanyl
  • Morphine
  • Succinylcholine

Step 2: Literature Search

  • Undertook a comprehensive literature search for PD and PK values for the selected drugs.

Step 3: Data Collection/Interpretation

  • Compiled published cardiac, hemodynamic and respiratory data needed to establish dose-response effects.
  • Analyzed data using principles of compartmental modeling and dose-response effect to generate PK and PD parameters for use with the Drug Editor.
  • Developed a summary document for each drug.

Step 4: Integrate Parameters into BabySIM
