  Rita Marcoux, R.Ph., MBA

Rita Marcoux has spent the last 12 years in the Pharmacy Benefit Management industry. She has worked with commercial and public clients throughout the country to develop network, rebate, clinical and operational programs that maximize their healthcare dollars and ensure the continuation of benefits for their members. Currently in her position as the director of the HUMC, Ms. Marcoux manages clients’ pharmacy benefit services, develops new contracts. She also manages a rotational site for Pharm.D. candidates.

Dr. Larrat has over 20 years of diverse experience in the pharmaceutical and managed care marketplace as a pharmacist, academic researcher, healthcare consultant and executive for a publicly traded pharmacy benefit management firm. He is currently Associate Dean and a professor of pharmacoepidemiology. He is responsible for the development of unique academic/industry collaborations, pharmacoeconomic analyses, medication utilization and outcomes projects and graduate student education. These efforts have attracted several million dollars in outside funding and resulted in the publication and presentation of numerous scientific papers.
 


  Stephen Kogut, Ph.D., MBA, R.Ph.

Dr. Stephen Kogut is an Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice in the program of pharmacoepidemiology and pharmacoeconomics. Additionally he is a registered and practicing pharmacist and directs numerous research projects. He works with various national and local stakeholders to improve medication use among populations. His current efforts include work for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission, and the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy. His local activities include ongoing projects with the Rhode Island Medicaid pharmacy program and with Quality Partners of Rhode Island, the state’s Medicare-contracted Quality Improvement Organization. Dr. Kogut is a member of the Rhode Island Board of Pharmacy and the Rhode Island Medicaid Drug Utilization Review Board. His publications include studies of patient adherence to drug therapies for chronic diseases and off-label prescribing.


  Brian Quilliam, Ph.D., R.Ph.

Dr. Quilliam is a pharmacoepidemiologist who has recently returned to the academic realm after working in the private sector.  In the private sector, he was the Director of Research for a contract research organization (CRO) working extensively with the pharmaceutical and managed care industries.  Now, at the University of Rhode Island, Dr. Quilliam improves pharmacotherapy through several ongoing research projects.  Dr. Quilliam’ s major areas of interest include cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and geriatrics.

Dr. Ward is currently a Clinical Assistant Professor and Director of Drug Information Services at the University of Rhode Island College of Pharmacy. She coordinates the P1 Interactive Learning class that focuses on developing basic drug information and literature retrieval skills, offers an Introduction to Drug Information elective, and lectures on Women’s Health in the core endocrine/metabolic curriculum. Dr. Ward offers an Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience (APPE) rotation in Drug Information at Drug Information Services.

With diverse background experience in community, clinical and consulting pharmacy, Thomas is applying himself towards a Doctor of Philosophy degree with a concentration in pharmacoeconomics and pharmacoepidemiology.  He performs data analysis as well as providing clinical support in the design and implementation of health policies for client organizations providing healthcare in a variety of different settings.  Additionally, he contributes to the medical and psychological review boards for one of these organizations. 


  Mark Regine

Mark Regine is studying for his Doctor of Philosophy degree under the supervision of Dr. Stephen Kogut.  He has several years of industry experience, including his work as a research assistant with Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, and most recently, a summer internship position with Boehringer Ingelheim, working within their Global Market Access and Outcomes Research Group. His contributions to the college include the projects titled: Prescription Medication Waste in the Nursing Home Setting: Opportunities for Rhode Island, and Computerized Physician Order Entry Use Among Rhode Island’s Hospitals: Insight into its Availability Implementation and Perceived Benefits. 


  Cyrus Agarabi, Pharm.D.
Graduate Student

Cyrus Agarabi is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Pharmaceutics and a Masters in Industrial Engineering, in addition to practicing as a licensed pharmacist.  His expertise lies within compounding pharmacy.  He assists the HUMC in maintaining cost effective care at the Department of Corrections.
