Continuing Education Credits

ACPE
The University of Rhode Island College of Pharmacy is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education. Attendance at all sessions and completion of online program evaluations at the conclusion of the program are required for a statement of credit. Attendees must complete their program evaluations
and may immediately print their continuing pharmacy education credit statement at the URI Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Management System site at www.uripharmacycpd.org.

Target Audience

Community, hospital, managed care & consultant pharmacists, pharmaceutical scientists, students and faculty of pharmaceutical, basic, and applied sciences and professionals with an interest in medication therapies, drug discovery and development, or pharmaceutical care.

Learning Objectives

  1. Define the inter-dependence of research and development, professional education, and health care delivery in confronting health care challenges;
  2. Compare and contrast traditional vs. newer methods of drug discovery;
  3. Discuss the challenges in clinical drug development confronting quantitative scientists and clinicians;
  4. Using prevention of neurodegenerative diseases as a model, describe novel pharmacological approaches in research;
  5. Identify commonly held myths associated with pharmaceutical research and development;
  6. Understand how pharmacy can contribute to patient care through translational research;
  7. Characterize innovative pharmacy practice roles that better serve patient needs and deploy pharmacy expertise in novel ways;
  8. Identify opportunities and challenges for pharmacists seeking to deliver patient-centered health care; and
  9. Define the role of the empowered consumer in the evolving health care delivery system.

This knowledge-based learning activity is accredited for 5.75 Contact Hours (0.575 CEUs) of continuing pharmacy education units. Universal Activity Number (UAN): 060-000-12-39-L01-P.
