University of Rhode Island - Think Big. We Do.

Dear Members of the University Community,

On behalf of the faculty, staff, and administration of The University of Rhode Island, I wish to extend my heartfelt condolences to all who are suffering in Haiti as a result of the recent devastating earthquake there, as well as to those members of our URI community who may have family and friends in that region at this time.

The staff of the URI Counseling Center, Roosevelt Hall Rm. 217, is available to provide support to any community members who may have suffered the loss or injury of loved ones in Haiti or who simply wish to talk about the tragedy there.

The events of the past few days are a sobering reminder of the fragile nature of our planet, our existence on it, and the role we play in a global community. It is during tragedies of this kind that we take special note of the importance of coming together to assist those who need our help.

The University of Rhode Island stands ready to assist the victims in Haiti in any way possible, and I encourage all members of the URI community to give consideration to personal involvement in the relief effort. Information about the relief efforts and needs in Haiti, including monetary donations, is available online at the U.S. Department of State www.state.gov/, United Nations www.un.org/en/, as well as various other charitable, religious, and community organizations and affiliations.

In the days ahead we will collectively continue to monitor the unfolding events in Haiti as we keep all of those who are impacted by this tragedy in our thoughts and prayers.

Sincerely,
David M. Dooley, Ph.D.
