General Education Requirements (39 credits)
| BIS Index Page |
Students in the BIS program must meet the University’s General Education requirements as explained in the University’s catalog, including the URI 101 requirement. BIS students use Senior Seminars to fulfill General Education requirements in the Social Sciences (BIS 390), Natural Sciences (BIS 391) and Letters (BIS 392). Students should consult frequently with their BIS advisor as they choose other courses to fulfill the General Education requirement.
Senior Seminars (18 credits)
The Senior Seminars are a distinctive feature of the BIS program. These three six-credit seminars are interdisciplinary in nature and enable students to integrate and synthesize their educational experiences. These seminars fulfill 3 parts of the 7-part General Education program. In addition, the Social Science and the Humanities Seminars fulfill the Diversity designation required in the General Education program. These seminars should normally be taken when students have completed their other General Education courses and most of the courses required for their major and have achieved Junior or Senior year status.
