BIS Health Services Administration Major
|BIS Index Page|
This interdisciplinary major provides students with a broad look at the health care system from a variety of perspectives, while also allowing them to focus on a specific area of interest. Graduates of this program would be strong candidates for entry or midlevel managerial and supervisory positions in organizations such as skilled nursing facilities, adult day care centers, home health care agencies, hospitals, clinics, laboratories, physicians’ offices, governmental and regulatory agencies and health plans. Graduates could also work in industries related to the health field, such as research and development, pharmaceuticals, and the insurance or computer industry.
Graduates of this program, who have taken the appropriate courses in their area of emphasis, would be eligible to sit for the Rhode Island exam for nursing home licensure.
This major is appropriate for students who have no previous exposure to this field, and for those who may already be employed in the field and are looking for a degree to give them the skills and knowledge to assume more significant responsibilities.
This major would also be appropriate for those in a health field who are looking for a bachelor’s degree program in a related subject to complement their 2-year degree. These students will be able to transfer a substantial portion of their 2-year program into this degree. URI has developed degree completion programs with many health-related associate degree programs at the Community College of Rhode Island.
