URI Feinstein Providence Campus presents

The annual “STATE OF THE ARTS IN RHODE ISLAND” Exhibit

June 2-27 with a Gallery Night Reception on June 19 from 5pm – 9pm.

The exhibit features new works of art by URI, RIC and gallery1CCRI students, faculty, staff, alumni and retired faculty.  Over the years, this exhibit has included hundreds of works of art in all media including ceramics, sculpture, photography, painting, drawing, printmaking, collage, assemblage, multimedia, fabric art along with costume and scenic design.  Among the works exhibited have been projects involving whole classes of students at each of the three state schools of higher education.  This exhibit also places the work of students along side of their mentor teachers’ work, as well as alumni art beside their mentors teacher’s work, often now retired but still creating new and exciting art.  It is enlightening to see the impact of faculty on their student and sometimes the reverse.  It is an indication of the paths taken by graduating students and their success in the field. This also highlights the vital place of the arts in the curriculum, the  contributions made by the arts to gallery2successful interdisciplinary education, the direct connections with other fields of study and the impact of the arts on our society as a whole.  The event is also a grand reunion for many students, faculty and alumni. It explores the new and exciting work being done and also hidden talents of faculty and staff whose major area is not visual art.

This year promises to be an exceptional one as we are currently hearing from people spread across the globe. The mixed media exhibit features the work of Scott Allinson, Nichole Dingee Allinson, Ben Anderson, Sam Ames, Marjorie Ball, Richard P. Bennett, Mary Ellen Benoit, Kay Blount, Harriet Brisson, Michael Bryce, Margaret Chobanian, Wendy Crooks, Joseph P. DaSilva, Bob Dilworth, Melanie Ducharme, Lilian R.
