Irish Heritage in Rhode Island: The Women’s Story

Gallery Receptions and performances March 1 at 2:00pm and March 20 at 5:00-9:00pm
An
exhibit of photographs artifacts and objects sharing the story of
Irish Immigration to this area and in particular the contributions
made by women in the home, the community, the church and to professional
life. The collection of materials include immigration and wedding
documents, family bibles, wedding gowns and clerical garb, handmade
items and person effects and furnishings from private collections
of local residents and museum collection in the area from Newport,
Bristol, East Providence Pawtucket, Providence, Woonsocket, Warwick
and Cranston and nearby Massachusetts.
The
exhibit will open on Saturday March 1st at 2:00pm with a special program
and reception hosted by Arlene Violet, featuring local historians
and political figures sharing personal stories of growing up Irish
and the special impact made by the women in their lives. The program
will also include Debbie Kane’s bagpiping, Katherine ONeill’s
musical ensemble and the Damhsa Irish Dancers followed by a reception
of Irish culinary delights.
The
Gallery Night Reception on Thursday March 20th from 5:00-9:00 pm will
feature music by Bagpiper Debbie Kane, Harpist Mary King, and Katherine
O’Neill’s ensemble and delicious Irish treats March 1
@ 2:00 pm & March 20 at 5:00pm.
