URI Providence Campus and the Rhode Island Alliance for Art Education Present

The 3rd Annual Richard & Ronald Buteau PS 2009 Public School Art Exhibit and The Gift Of Art to the State of Rhode Island

May 4-29
with a Gallery Night May 21 5:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.

This event includes the reception of the Gift of Art from Central Falls Schools at 7:00 p.m. with student performances in the Gallery throughout the evening.

Each year the Public School Art Exhibit includes between 250 and 350 works of art in all media (two and three dimensional, including painting, drawing, photography, printmaking, construction, collage, mixed media, ceramics, sculpture, fabric art) created by K-12 students from across the state. The work illustrates the talent of our young people; the hard work, dedication and inspiration of their teachers; and the important relationship between the arts and creative thinking, and all of the basic skills (Reading, Writing, Mathematics and the Sciences). It clearly illustrates the integration of the arts into all disciplines through the art education curriculum.

This year the Central Falls School System has been chosen for The Gift of Art to the State of Rhode Island due to their extraordinary work in the visual and performing arts. The Rhode Island Alliance for Art Education and the Gift of Art program are funded in part by the Kennedy Center Alliance for the Arts. Each year a school system is chosen for their outstanding work in Art Education. They donate nine works of art, three each from elementary, middle and high school which are framed and become a part permanent collection proudly displayed at the URI Providence Campus.

Also underwriting this exhibit is Gloria Buteau, mother of Richard & Ronald. This is the Third Annual Exhibit in honor of her sons whose lives were tragically cut short.
