Exhibit
runs May 3-28, 2010 *Reception of the Gift of Art from the Bristol-Warren Schools at 7:00pm with student performances in the Gallery throughout the evening. This year, the Public School Art Exhibit includes 350 works of art in all media (2 and 3 dimensional including painting, drawing, photography, printmaking, construction, collage, mixed media, ceramics, sculpture, fabric art) created by 600 K-12 students from across the state. There are 24 school districts represented who have submitted works of art representing the highest degree of excellence including: Bristol-Warren, Central Falls, Coventry, Cranston, Cumberland, East Greenwich, East Providence, Gloucester, Jamestown, Johnston, Kingston, Lincoln, Middletown, North Kingstown, Portsmouth, Providence Scituate, South Kingston, Tiverton, West Greenwich, West Kingston, Warwick, Westerly, Woonsocket. The work illustrates the talent of our young people; the hard work, dedication and inspiration of their teachers; the important relationship between the arts and creative thinking, and the integration of the arts in all the basic skills (Reading, Writing, Mathematics and the Sciences). The work also clearly illustrates the integration of the arts into all of the other disciplines through the art education curriculum. This year the Bristol-Warren School System has been chosen for The Gift of Art to the State of Rhode Island due to their extraordinary work in the visual and performing arts. The Rhode Island Alliance for Art Education and the Gift of Art program are funded in part by the Kennedy Center Alliance for the Arts. Each year a school system is chosen for their outstanding work in Art Education. They donate nine works of art, three each from elementary, middle and high school which are framed and become a part permanent collection proudly displayed at the URI Feinstein Providence Campus in the 2nd floor lobby gallery.
