URI Providence Campus presents THE LARAMIE PROJECT

The URI Providence Campus is presenting a performance of the Salve Regina University Theatre Department Production of The Laramie Project, the documentary play written about the murder of a gay college student. The play is directed by Steven Pennell, Coordinator of the URI Providence Campus Urban Arts and Culture Program.

Matthew Shepard was brutally murdered in Laramie, Wyoming ten years ago on October 6, 1998. This play was presented at Salve Regina on November 19-23 and was completely sold out.

Written by Moises Kaufman and the Tectonic Theatre Company the play explores all sides of the story, the beating and murder of Matthew Shepard, the media frenzy that ensued victimizing the town, and also the status of Hate Crime Legislation across the country.

THE LARAMIE PROJECT will be presented on December 9, 2008 at 7:30 p.m. in the Paff Auditorium, URI Providence Campus, 80 Washington Street, Providence, RI 02903. Donations will be accepted for the Salve Theater Group.
