Lt. Gov. Elizabeth
Roberts will discuss health care issues in Rhode Island
as the first speaker in the 2007 Distinguished Lecture
Series presented by the University of Rhode Island’s Feinstein
Roberts’ talk, “Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Health Care: Why You Should Care (If You Don’t Already),” will be presented Tuesday, Oct. 16 from noon to 1 p.m. at the URI Feinstein Providence Campus, 80 Washington St. The program is free and open to the public.
Her talk will detail the roles of business leaders, families and government officials in changing a health care system that has a profound impact on Rhode Island’s economy and every Rhode Islander.
Roberts is considered to be one of Rhode Island’s most respected advocates for high quality, affordable health care for all citizens. She has been a tireless worker on health and medical issues in the Statehouse, and for the uninsured in the state.
As a health care professional, mother, small businesswoman, state senator and now as lieutenant governor, Roberts recognizes people’s right to quality, affordable health care. In 1995, she was motivated to enter public life to strengthen the state’s health care system.
During her 10 years in the Rhode Island Senate, Roberts led the reform of Blue Cross Blue Shield, expanded prescription drug coverage for seniors and was a force in making insurance more affordable for small businesses.
Roberts’ lecture is one of three that will be offered this semester at the Feinstein Providence Campus. The two additional lectures will be the following:
