Duties
and Responsibilities:
This position is limited to 09-25-10 with
extension contingent on funding.
BASIC FUNCTION:
Under direct supervision of the PI, conduct research on biological, biorational, and insecticide control of insect pests of turf
and ornamentals in the laboratory and the field. Assist in culturing biological
organisms (bacteria, nematodes, insects) for
experimentation.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Collect and analyze data from experiments and study plots.
Assist principal investigator in literature searches pertinent to ongoing or
proposed research projects.
Supervise undergraduate students and assist graduate students in various
research projects.
Assist principal investigator in training pesticide applicators in pesticide
safety.
Assist principal investigator in providing education on crop insurance to Rhode
Island growers.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist faculty supervisor and collaborators in development of research
proposals and publications.
Maintain all laboratory equipment and supplies. Order supplies and equipment as
needed.
Perform other duties as required.
LICENSES, TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT:
Personal computers and printers; word processing, database management and
spreadsheet software, PowerPoint, Photoshop, and Illustrator. Must be willing to work in the field with sod cutters, lawn mowers,
high-pressure injection equipment, hand tools, etc.

Qualifications:
Required:
1) Bachelor's degree;
2) experience which includes culture of insects, bacteria, and entomopathogenic nematodes;
3) demonstrated ability with computer graphics (PowerPoint, Photoshop,
Illustrator, etc.);
4) familiarity with biological and biorational
techniques in insect pest management;
5) working knowledge of statistics;
6) field work experience that includes working with pesticides;
7) willingness to work in the field with sod cutters, lawn mowers,
high-pressure injection equipment, hand tools, etc.;
8) ability to organize, coordinate and supervise undergraduate students.
9) Must obtain pesticide applicator's certification within six months of
appointment.
