Welcome to our new website!
The men and women of the University of Rhode Island Police Department welcome you to our web site. It is our intent that this website provides you with information about our department and the services that we provide in the furtherance of our mission.
The URI Police Department works closely with the other divisions of the Department of Public Safety as well as other academic departments and the Office of Student Life, Student Affairs, and Housing and Residential Life. We strive to further the philosophy of community policing-we need the assistance of all the members of the URI community in solving problems and keeping our campuses safe.
URI Police Officers currently patrol as unarmed officers with full arrest powers. All of our officers are graduates of the Rhode Island Municipal Police Training Academy and receive mandatory annual police training. We investigate and prosecute crimes that occur on University property as well as traffic accidents and traffic related violations.
Most of our staff work out of our police station at 85 Briar Lane on the Kingston campus. We maintain patrols on the Kingston campus 24/7 and answer calls for service at the Narragansett Bay Campus as well as the W. Alton Jones campus. Our Providence campus is manned by a University Police Lieutenant who oversees a security force there.
We strive to be pro-active through our various methods of patrol such as vehicle patrol, foot patrol and bicycle patrol. Our officers are involved in community relations projects such as “Blues and Cues” and “P.A.L.S.” and we offer a student internship program for those students interested in law enforcement.
Please check out the various pages of our web site and contact us with any suggestions or concerns.
