Jasmine Jennings(right) and Sarah Thornton of the women’s outdoor track & field team competed in the hammer throw at the 2008 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championship at Drake University. Jennings, who became the first URI student-athlete to win an NCAA Regional title, earned an automatic qualifier after winning the regional championship on May 31 at Florida State with a throw of 205-06. She finished 26th at the national championship meet. Thornton, who finished eighth at the NCAA East Regional, earned an at-large invitation into the field of the national championship meet.
