Joe Fletcher ’97
He quit teaching high school English to tour full-time with his Americana band, Joe Fletcher & the Wrong Reasons. His songwriting draws plots and characters from literature as well as life. The story behind “White Lighter,” the name of the band’s second album, started at URI in the 1990s, when “white Bic lighters were said to be bad luck,” Fletcher recalls. “Kids would walk up to you at a party and throw your lighter in the woods, because they didn’t want it in their house.”
