"No-Touch" Warranty and RAMCare

The "No-Touch" Warranty and RAMCare are service programs that RAM Computers has developed to provide stellar service for technology within the URI community. Both service contracts are valid from September 1st to May 31st and are renewable each subsequent year. The "No-Touch" Warranty is exclusive to our Rhody Ready computers and paired with a 3-year manufacturer's warranty.

RAMCare was designed for students bringing their own computer to school who seek the benefits of the "No-Touch" Warranty. These two programs offer access to services that manufacturers cannot match, such as unlimited software support, a loaner computer, and on-site visits in student dorms and Fraternity/Sorority houses.

If you are new to the campus network and can only access uri.edu, it is probably because you do not have a qualified anti-virus solution, free antivirus solutions are available to all current URI faculty, staff and students. Please visit the help-desk wiki for more help installing.
If you are having a connectivity difficulty off-campus, please contact your home Internet Service Provider(ISP) for troubleshooting help.

Warranty Services
RAM Computers is a self maintainer and offers warranty services for the following manufacturers
Apple Dell HP Lenovo
This means if you purchased your computer from RAM Computers we can provide warranty services for hardware malfunctions. If your computer requires a hardware replacement, RAM Computers can order/replace any parts through a manufacturer that provides labor re-imbursement for free. Please note, if the part is a "Customer Replaceable Units" by the manufacturer's standards, a service fee may be assessed.

Customer Replaceable Units(CRU)
Some components are considered customer replaceable units. These are components that the manufacturer has deemed replaceable by the customer and therefore they will not pay for a service provider to replace them. Dell has the most extensive list of components classified in this category. Their list includes batteries, memory, drives, etc. If the component you need replaced is a customer replaceable unit, you will be subject to labor fees if we handle the repair. If your computer difficulty is diagnosed as a software problem, cost assessment will be provided.

RAM Computers requires a non-refundable $35 diagnostic fee on all repairs that are not covered by the manufacturer's warranty. This fee covers the diagnostic services used to determine the cause of your problem. If you choose to have your repair performed, the $35 fee will be credited toward the labor on that repair. Software fees are between $20 and $75 depending on the nature of the conflict.

Software Service
"No-Touch" Warranty and RAMCare customers enjoy the benefit of unlimited free service labor for software troubleshooting. If you purchased a Rhody Ready computer, "No-Touch" Warranty comes complementary for the first Fall and Spring semesters, so if you're a freshman from last year, don't forget to renew. If you did not get a renewal form in June or July, please call 401-874-2679 Monday-Thursday 9AM-4PM, Friday 9AM-3PM.

For the rest of the URI community, we offer very reasonable service rates. The majority of software issues we deal with are viruses; a regular cleaning costs $75. In many cases the amount of software corruption prevents a timely repair and the easiest way to correct these software problems is to initialize the drive (wiping out all the contents) and reinstall the operating system. This will bring your computer back to factory specifications, i.e. the way your computer was when you first got it. We can backup your Documents folder and your Office key in most cases, but you'll be responsible for installing any software loaded onto it after you purchased it. A backup/reload software repair is typically $50.

Out of Warranty Service
The cost of parts and labor must be paid for any out of warranty replacements. If your computer is checked into service and you choose not to carry on with the repair after a parts and labor quotation, a non-refundable $35 diagnostic fee will be required.

Part replacements are available on all out of warranty Apple, Dell, and Lenovo computers (unless the part has reached its "End of Life" and is not available through the manufacturer). Out of warranty service is also available for HP Business notebooks bought from our store. Excluding hard drives and memory, if your computer is not an Apple, Dell, Lenovo/IBM or HP, we cannot provide parts for it! RAM Computers will be happy to diagnose any computer, but if we can't order parts for it, all we can provide is advisement on a repair elsewhere if feasible or a quotation on the purchase of a new computer.
