Bringing a computer from home?

We developed RAMCare to provide technology services for students bringing a computer from home, comparable to the services students receive who buy one of our Rhody Ready Computers. RAMCare gives you the perfect safety umbrella for technology difficulties that you might experience on an existing computer you bring from home. However, if you are in the market for a new computer, our Rhody Ready program is THE way to go. Final pricing and configurations for Rhody Ready computers will go live on June 1st. 2009.

What is RAMCare?

RAMCare is a service package available for your existing computer renewed each academic year. In-room, carry-in service and unlimited labor for hardware and any software repairs such as viruses, spyware and other malware are covered. If your system no longer has an active manufacturer's warranty you can still benefit from RAMCare coverage but you'll be responsible for the cost of any parts.

What does RAMCare include?

Loaner laptops

If your system is down for a hardware repair, we'll lend you a replacement laptop for the duration of the repair. If your computer is out of warranty when it breaks, we'll lend you a replacement for up to 3 weeks to give you time to decide whether to repair or replace it.

On-Site Service

Some difficulties are easier solved with on-site attention. If you're living on-campus, RAM Computers has an team of student techs diagnosing and troubleshooting technology problems 5PM-9PM, Sunday to Thursday. Phone in during store hours and if we can't resolve the problem on the line, you can schedule an appointment for an on-site visit. If that doesn't get the job done, RAMCare also includes...

Carry-In Service

Boot problems, blue screens, viruses, software quirks, hardware faults? Checking your computer in for service allows an elite group of technicians to pool their knowledge against your technology complication. Getting matters resolved in a timely manner is important to us; software problems are escalated to our service manager as needed and a loaner computer is the perfect friend while we resolve a hardware problem on your computer.

What about part(s) cost?

As described above, RAM Care is a service warranty, so check your manufacturer's warranty with your computer. If you do not have part(s) coverage through your computer's manufacturer, RAM Computers will provide an estimate for the repair while you do school work with the loaner computer provided. If the cost of the repair outweighs the value of the computer, we'll quote you on a replacement or allow you to use the loaner computer for up to 3 weeks while you shop around. Also Note: You must provide the restore/recovery disc(s) or operating system disc(s) if needed.
