  • Rec FIT Wars - FREE
    January 26th - March 9th
    Team up with our staff, set goals, workout and win prizes!!  Teams will have challenges, weight-ins and there will be eliminations.  The last FIT team standing, wins the war!

  • Push-Pull Competition
    Tuesday, February 28th at 6:00 p.m.
    Challenge yourself to a Bench and Deadlift, how many can you really do?
    Registration:  January 23rd - February 23rd in Mackal.        
    Fee:  URI Students: $8 / Rec Pass & Non-Members: $15

  • Spring into Shape - FREE
    Mix up your routine and try some new classes! All classes are at 7:30 p.m. and held in the Tootell Group Exercise Studio.

    - April 2nd:  Groove and Tone

  • National Rec Sports and Fitness Day
    Wednesday, February 22nd
    Come defy the Obstacle Course!  It's free, fun and you could win prizes.

    A free week long incentive program to get you active, have fun and win prizes.

  • Rec Services 2nd Annual Indoor Biathlon(500 yard swim & 5K run)
    Sunday, March 25th - EVENT CANCELED

    Are you interested in getting a head start on your race season or looking for something to get you moving in the spring? Then come and participate in our indoor biathlon!

    This event includes a 500yd swim in the Tootell Aquatic Center and a 5K run/walk in the Mackal Field House.  Rain or shine and all participants will receive a prize for participating. This year we are offering a family team relay for adult and child (ages 10 & up with parent/legal guardian consent and signature) per team. 

    Registration form:  Rec Service Center in Mackal Lobby beginning February 2nd.        
    Fee:  URI Students: $15 / Rec/TAC Pass:  $20 / Non-Members:  $25 /
             Day of:  $25 for all participants.

  • Diversity Week: "What Shapes US" presented by our Coordinator of Fitness & Wellness, Leticia D. Orozco.  Tuesday, October 4th at 9:30 a.m. at the Multi-Cultural Center. This presentation is about easy steps on how to shape a new, healthier, active you by tackling how, what and when you should eat.  Please see Diversity Week schedule at uri.edu/mcc for more information.

  • Power Lifting Event
    Tuesday, November 15th, 2011 at 4:30 p.m.
    The goal of this meet is to lift the most weight possible within your weight class. Registration:  September 11th - October 31st in the Fitness & Wellness Office.         Fee:  URI Students: $15 / Rec Pass & Non-Members: $20

  • PiYo Strength
    Saturday, November 12th, Tootell Group Exercise Studio
    Presented by Powder Blue Productions.  These classes are designed to build strength and gain flexibility that is fun, challenging and will make you sweat!  Register online for a workshop or certification class at turbokick.com.  

    Instructor Training Class: 9:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.
    Pro Training Class: 9:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.
    Lesson 16 Workshop: 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

Fitness Workshops

Wellness is often defined as the absence of disease. It should be viewed as a higher level of well-being. Working towards developing all these areas will help you establish a more balanced life.

There are 7 dimensions of wellness:

  • Social
  • Physical

Upon request, the Fitness & Wellness staff is available to provide specialty workshops for residence halls, University groups, your office, etc. Call 874-2822 for more details.
