Sara Johnson received her B.A. from State University of New
York at Geneseo in 1993, an M.A. in Clinical Psychology in 1995, and a Ph.D. in Clinical
Psychology from the University of Rhode Island in 1998. She began her work at the Cancer
Prevention Research Center as a research assistant in 1993 and joined Pro-Change in
September, 1998. She has been involved with the application of the Transtheoretical Model
to a variety of health behaviors and has expertise in the development of expert system
interventions and counselor protocols, measurement development, and data analysis.
Sara's experience bridges grant-funded research, the development of
adjunctive interventions for commercial products (e.g., the Nicotrol Patch), and
development and delivery of clinical interventions. She led efforts that resulted in
Pro-Change receiving funding from the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute and the
National Institute of Diabetes, Digestive, and Kidney Diseases to examine the efficacy of
population-based adherence and weight management interventions. Her primary areas of
research and clinical interest include multiple risk interventions, weight management,
medication adherence, and health behavior change
