When do application forms become available?
Application forms are available on the Research Office website (URL below) in mid-December.
When is the application deadline?
Proposals for the 2008-2009 Grants Program are due in the Research Office by 4:00 p.m. on Friday, February 22, 2008. Proposals received after the deadline will not be considered.
Who is eligible to apply?
The program encourages proposals from all faculty, both tenure track and non-tenure track, as well as research scientists, administrators and staff.
When are awards announced?
The council plans to announce awards by April 2008. All applicants will receive notification in writing.
How many proposals are submitted? How many are awarded?
In 2007 thirty-one applications were received for both programs. Sixteen grants were awarded, seven of thirteen total Career Enhancement submissions (54%) and nine of eighteen total Research Proposal Development submissions (50%).
How many awards went to junior vs. senior faculty?
Last year nine professors were awarded Research Proposal Development grants, 7 of which were junior faculty (78%). Seven Career Enhancement grants were awarded, five of which went to junior faculty (71%).
What is the amount of the average award?
The average award for Career Enhancement grants was $5,773 and the average Research Proposal Development Grants was $7,177.
How do I submit my proposal?

Do I use the URI Internal Approval for Proposal Transmittal Sheet in addition to the grant application cover sheet?
No. It is no longer necessary to use the URI Internal Approval for Proposal Transmittal Sheet. Use only the Cover Sheet contained within this year's application kit.
What is the difference between the Summary and the proposal Introduction?
The Summary should be an abstract about the proposal, readable by any lay person. The Introduction should be a more technical description of the work.

When does my grant end?
Funds must be used by December 31, 2008. Accounts are closed on that date.
Does my department authorize my grant expenditures (requisitions, invoice vouchers, MP7's, UP7's, etc.)?
No. The Division of Research and Economic Development has signature authority for Council for Research grant expenditures. Paperwork then follows regular accounting proceduresof the Kingston Campus where payments are disbursed from Council for Research funds.
