About Us
An office within the URI Division of Research and Economic Development, the Office of Research Development (ORD) provides grantsmanship, grant writing, and proposal development support services and resources to the URI community to improve the quality and increase the quantity of research and educational proposals to external funding sources, including state and federal agencies and private foundations.
ORD staff work closely with faculty, researchers, and administrators across all disciplines to provide information and identify funding opportunities. Specifically, we can:
- Identify and provide research on appropriate funding sources, both internal and external to the university
- Brainstorm ways to turn a great idea into a fundable project
- Review and edit letters of inquiry, concept papers, and proposal drafts and provide feedback to strengthen proposals prior to submission
- Provide cursory review of project budgets for consistency with the RFP
- Gather required supporting institutional documentation, and draft and secure letters of support from institutional leadership
- Coordinate review/input by our Washington, D.C.-based consultants, The Implementation Group
- Interpret reviewers' comments and advise on revisions and resubmissions of declined proposals
- Conduct workshops on funding sources, strategies, and proposal writing. Upon request, we can present workshops and seminars for departments and other groups
The ORD also facilitates grant projects involving multiple colleges and institutions and can match funding sources to areas of team interest as well as promoting networking opportunities for potential collaborations.
