REMINDER: Have you printed and read the Grants Guidelines and Application procedures?

To apply, you must be able to answer affirmatively to the following questions and follow the steps outlined below.

Project Eligibility

  1. Are one or more humanities disciplines adequately and imaginatively represented in the prospective project?

  2. Are humanities scholars an integral part of both the planning and the implementation of the proposed project?

  3. Does the project enlist wide participation by the general public or show the potential to have a public impact?

  4. Does the proposed project include plans for publicity to ensure an adequate audience? Approximately 15% of the amount requested from RICH must be allocated to publicity.

  5. Does the proposed project have a clear plan for independent evaluation?

  6. Is the applicant affiliated with or sponsored by a non-profit 501(c) organization? (RICH can assist individuals in finding an appropriate sponsor.)

  7. Does the proposed project at least match the funds requested from RICH? This match may be either cash or through in-kind donations of space, personnel, etc. Federal guidelines and RICH policies, however, do not provide funding for private research, scholarships, performances, restoration or construction work and equipment purchases.

When You Are Ready to Apply

If your project idea falls within the outlines of RICH grant categories and you answered yes to the questions above...

  1. Print and read the application guidelines.

  2. Call RICH to discuss your project idea with a staff member.

  3. Submit a letter of intent, including:

    • A brief description of the project and the financial support you will seek from RICH

    • An explanation of how and why you think the humanities and the participation of scholars are intrinsic to the project

    • A preliminary budget

  4. If the Letter of Intent outlines an appropriate project, a RICH staff member will contact you to discuss the elements of your proposal and schedule a consultation meeting.

  5. Submit a  polished proposal draft, including budget two weeks before the proposal deadline.

  6. With RICH staff suggestions, submit  copies of the final proposal.
