Part of the Rhode Island Dialogues Program

After each of Rhode Island's 39 cities and towns participates in the Dialogues Program, The Rhode Island Council for the Humanities (RICH) offers it a one-time Fund for Community Engagement (FCE)awardof up to $1,000.

The Fund for Community Engagement grant gives each community an opportunity to address--through a public humanities project--issues raised during the Dialogue meeting. Please read the following guidelines for Fund for Community Engagement grants.

A) Each FCE project must meet the general grant guidelines set forth by RICH for all its grants and activities.

Access RICH's general grant criteria by clicking here or call RICH at 401-273-2250 to request a paper copy.

B) Each FCE project will additionally meet the following specific criteria:

1. The project must include a sponsoring organization (fiscal agent) that is either:

    a) the community's city/town hall or administrative office, or
  b) the community's public library

  2.   The project must clearly address/seek to explore the issue(s) raised during the local Dialogue and must represent the challenges of finding community consensus

3.

The project must engage the community comprehensively through a public humanities project

Procedure for FCE submission:

1.

Create a committee to guide the process of submitting your fund request.  This committee must include at least 1 representative from the sponsoring organization (fiscal agent) and no more than 2 individuals who will lead the process (project directors). Your committee will find it very helpful to write short narratives about your ideas and objectives and brief budgets for up to $1000 for each idea.

  2.  Call to discuss your ideas and arrange a meeting with RICH staff no later than 1 month after the date of your community's Rhode Island Dialogue.  This will be an opportunity to discuss your plans and begin the process of designing your project.

  3. Submit a detailed letter describing your project no later than 2 months after your community's Dialogue.

  4. Submit a final project plan for approval no later than 3 months after your community's Dialogue.

Please note: RICH will work closely with you to develop your plan and will assist you in making sure that your project meets the criteria required.RICH does, however, retain the right to refuse projects that do not wholly meet these criteria.
