Continuing education is the responsibility of every professional nurse: as the field of nursing knowledge is continually expanding it is our responsibility to remain informed so that we keep our practice current.
The State of Rhode Island Board of Nurse Registration and Nurse Education mandates that every RN licensed in RI must complete a minimum of 10 hours of continuing education every 2 years. These hours must be completed before the license is renewed and documentation of successful completion should be maintained by each individual RN.
Continuing education opportunities abound; courses and conferences are available on any and every nursing topic. Check the education listings in your professional journal and the nursing education site at your place of employment for course announcements. Free on-line CEU's, accredited by the ANCC, are also available from several providers.
