Programs and Leadership
Membership in a fraternity or sorority on campus opens the door for all sorts of involvement on the URI campus. Here are just some of the ways that the URI Greeks stay involved.

HDF 498-Advanced Leadership Studies: Leadership in Fraternities and Sororities is a 400-level, 3-credit academic course offered by the URI Center for Student Leadership Development that is open to all fraternity and sorority members. The course is designed to teach students to be effective organizational and community leaders. Students enrolled in this class are also trained to be mentors for Greek 101, our community-wide new member education program.
Greek 101 - New Member Education Program
Greek 101 is a community-wide new member education program that all new members of URI fraternities and sororities attend. The program consists of a weekly series of workshops that address the following areas: teambuilding, hazing, responsible alcohol management, violence prevention, scholarship, and leadership. Each workshop consists of a general presentation, followed by small group breakout sessions. During these sessions, trained peer mentors facilitate discussion among the new member about the presentation topic
Greek Leaders' Summit
The Greek Leaders' Summit is an overnight retreat that is held prior to the start of the fall semester. All fraternity and sorority chapter presidents, IFC officers, and Panhellenic officers attend this summit. During the retreat, members participate in a variety of activities that encourage teambuilding, goal setting, event planning, and positive environmental improvement. The summit is revisited during a one-day event that is held during the month of January.
Greek Week
Greek Week is a weeklong series of athletic events and entertainment through which the fraternities and sororities raise thousands of dollars each year for national and local charities. Money is raised primarily through admission tickets, which are sold for each of the major events. Greek Week is a longstanding tradition that has occurred during each spring semester at URI for over 60 years!
Philanthropy Week
Philanthropy Week is one of the most rewarding times for the Greek System. Throughout this week there is a series of events where all Greeks come together to fundraise for charitable organizations. Events include: Singled Out, Date Auction, and a canned food drive. This past Philanthropy Week the Greek System raised $10,000 to be donated to the Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Foundation. Along with this major charity, the Greek chapters are parternered with one another to raise money for various other organizations.
Up 'Til Dawn
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital

Up 'Til Dawn is a national philanthropic cause that members of the URI Greek system continuously dedicate time and effort towards. Several times throughout the year, our Greek organizations will participate in letter-writing campaigns for the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. The letters are sent to friends and family members of the Greek community. In the letters, we ask that our friends and families donate money directly to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in order to help the hospital fund treatment for sick children. Last year alone, URI Greeks helped to raise over $14,000 for the cause.
Greek Life LEAD Endowment Fund
The URI Greek Life LEAD (Leadership Education and Development) Endowment Fund is designed to provide economic support to URI’s fraternities and sororities and to contribute to our progress in the areas of scholarship and leadership. The advancement and maintenance of our Greek organizations and governing bodies will be ensured through educational funding and leadership programming provided through the endowment. The fund was established in May 2005.
