Bias Response Team

About Us

The University of Rhode Island Bias Response Team based out of the Office of Student Life, works to gather information about bias incidents and to support those who have witnessed, or become a target, of an act of bias.

The role of the Bias Response Team is to:

  • provide targets of bias a safe space to have their voices heard
  • to promote civility and respect
  • to effect change around these important issues in a quick and effective manner
  • to ensure a comprehensive response to bias incidents

The Bias Response Team does not adjudicate student conduct code violations, affirmative action issues, or issues of state or federal law. The Bias Response Team can help individuals connect to resources in each of these areas for appropriate resolution.

Case Response Teams

Once a report is received an individual Case Response Teams formed. A CRT is made up of a case manager, advocate and target, and other parties as needed. The members of the CRT will change from incident to incident depending on the affected parties and the range of individuals needed for an appropriate response.

The purpose of the CRT is to effectively manage a reported issue, to develop a plan for resolution, and to implement the necessary pieces of an appropriate response to each incident.
