Welcome to the RAM
Choices Website
The inception of RAM Choices occurred in 1998 when the
National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) granted the University
of Rhode Island with a grant. This grant gave the school the monetary support
it needed to launch the RAM (Responsible Alcohol Management) Choices program.
Since then, the University of Rhode Island (URI) has had an incredible
Student Athlete focused peer mentoring program know as RAM Choices. Its
intention was to get student-athletes educated to work effectively with
their teammate reduce risks of alcohol related problems on campus. After
realizing how effective this program has been for student athletes RAM
Choices has expanded its topics to all areas of wellness.
On the widest scope, we hope to get all of the 500 student
athletes involved with RAM Choices in one way or another. This means making
our program solid as a rock while strengthening the abilities of our team
representatives through various program initiatives. .
Our goal for the 2001 RAM choices campaign is to make
every single URI student-athlete aware of the dangers he or she may face
throughout their academic and athletic careers here. We want to have everyone
involved and able to contribute to making the URI athletic program a safer,
healthier, and more successful place to compete.
Thanks to the support from the NCAA and the URI Athletic
Department, RAM Choices continues to flourish by aiding and educating student
athletes here at URI in a positive manner.
