Sigma Kappa dedicates its time to important community service
projects, including Alzheimer's disease, Gerontology, Maine Sea
Coast Mission, and Inherit the Earth.
Our chapter also participates in Project Sunrise and Sunset, bi-yearly
events aiding the elderly with yard work; various fundraising/walk-a-thons
for cancer societies and diabetes organizations; and individual
volunteer projects at children's hospitals, daycare centers and
elementary schools.
Every spring, all of URI's Greek Community gets together for Greek
Week, a ten day expanse of fundraising activities for Hasbro Children's
Hospital in Providence, RI and the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The
activities include Dance, Lip Sync and Singing competitions, sporting
events (i.e. swimming races, shooting contests, softball, etc.),
and miscellaneous contests (i.e. Eat-off, banner and t-shirt designs,
sleeping bag/tricycle races, campus clean-up, etc.). The week
packs a lot of fun into raising money for charity.
