MEN'S VARSITY SWIMMING AND DIVING

Meet the Tri-Captains!

Mike Goodman '98 from Tilson, NY, has been one of the truly outstanding members of our Teams the last three years Now a senior, Mike has been one of the hardest workers on the Team in practice, one of the most versatile athletes we have, and has always been a great role model for all of us in the Program. He has shown his talent and versatility by being our best Butterflier and IM'er the past three years, and he rounds out his contributions to the Program and the Team because he can swim on both our 400 and our 800 yard Freestyle Relay teams. Mike is majoring in Marine Affairs. One shouldn't confuse Mike's quiet way with a lack of competitiveness. He loves to swim!

Frank Leopardi '99 is the first athlete in the 26 year history of the Program to red shirt for the purpose of improving his competitive edge. He currently holds every diving record at the University of Rhide Island. He placed in the top eight at the Atlantic Tens all three years he competed, and reached as high as second at the ECAC's in 1996 on both the 1 meter and 3 meter boards. Although he has been diving on the 3 meter board for only two years, he had a full 3.0 list in 1996-1997. By using this coming year to gain more experience with this harder list, to practice but not compete in intercollegiate meets, our expectation is that Frank will perform at a much higher level in 1998-1999. Frank is majoring in Animal Science and Technology.

Erik Szyluk '98 hails from Longmeadow, MA, and is truly one of our most talented athletes in recent years. He has been the spark to get our Medley Relays off to a great start, and the closer who has provided us with that real competitor for the anchor of the Freestyle Relays. His list of accomplishments include varsity records in the 100 and 200 Backstroke events, as well as the 400 Freestyle and Medley Relays, 5th in the 100 and 200 Backstroke at the Atlantic Ten Championships, and the 1997 ECAC 100 Yard Backstroke Championship. He is a three year letterperson who is majoring in Business Management. He has provided, and will continue to provide, great leadership for our Program.
