April 30, 2003
Hey everyone!
This is Shannon from MSS, I have inherited the job of secretary from
Tracy, and this is my first time sending out the minutes report, so
please, bear with me.
This was our last meeting of the year, which was very sad. Jeni handed
over the crown and septer to our new president Kevin, Kevin tried to
suck up to the departing seniors, and Matt "cried". Overall
it was a good meeting.
Being the last meeting of the year, we brainstormed and discussed ideas
for next year. Heres what we came up with:
Suggested Trips/Outings:
whale watch, trawling on the Bert, visit to the Attleboro Fish Hatchery-
or possibly others, volunteering with Karen Tammi, beach clean up, Woods
Hole, Museum of Natural History in NY, Maine Fishermans Forum, Boston
Seafood Show, Sea Rovers show, Fish Expo, New England Aquacultural Conference
and Expo, a fishing trip on the Bert, clamming with Dave Beutel, and
a "bring your own stuff" fishing day- from a beach somewhere.
Suggested Speakers:
Dr. Roper, Peter Benchley, Eugina Clark about sharks, Andy Reed about
harbor porpoises, Scott Krauss on the take reduction of large whales,
Conrad, Dr. Cobb, Dick Wing on knot tying, Dave Beutel on unique fish
of RI, and George Bell.
Other ideas for the beginning of next year:
- We want to get some posters made and put up as soon as possible, to
try to attract new members
- We want to try to visit URI 101 classes in an attempt to recruit new
members
- We are tentatively planning on going on a whale watch on the weekend
of September 13-14th. This will be discussed in more detail next semester.
In addition to all of this, there was a unanimous "vote" among
the members who were there to keep in touch, and maybe try to get together
some time over the summer. Contact info was sent out in the email.
***Reminder***
The Bert trip is next Wednesday, May 7, at 12pm. The boat LEAVES at
12, so please show up before that. Kevin has invited everyone over to
his house after for an end of year get-together.
Well, that just about covers it. I want to wish the best of luck to
our departing members in their continuation of school or out there in
that scary place called the real world where they have to go out and
find jobs and make a living. I hope everyone has a great summer working/learning/volunteering/interning/slacking
and I can't wait to see you all again next year. Bye for now!
~Shannon
