Hope everyone is doing well! Not a whole lot of stuff to talk about this week.
~The aquaculture converence is this thursday and friday. There are 4 spots open to help out, people can rotate during these times. If you go to help, you can also go check out the stuff thats going on. Let us know if you want to go/need a ride.
~The whale watch has been officially scrapped for this year. We are thinking we want to take a trip to the mystic aquarium, maybe we can get in behind the scenes. We'll need ten people to go to get the group rates. Maybe we can do the seaport in the spring, its getting kind of cold right now for that.
~Dr.Wilga wasnt able to make it last week, but will possibly be able to come next wednesday. This is not definate yet, we should know by this next meeting.
~Also by this week we should know about the date for the trip to the N.Attleboro Salmon Hatchery.
~Possible future speakers were again brought up during this meeting. Some ideas included the talk on pharmaceutacles from the sea, and Dave Beutel on bizarre fish of RI.
He will be giving a talk at the north kingston public library on Oct 29. We can either go see him there, or we can wait till next semester and have him come talk to us privately. This is really up to you guys, so let us know what you think.
~Kayaking- who wants to go? Jeff has some he is willing to let us use, and we will rent the rest of them. We need to know by this meeting who wants to go so we can finalize the plans. So farthe plan is to go out this sunday, the 26th, but the rest of the details will be worked out at the meeting.
~As for the next meeting, I hope to see you all there. It will be in our usual spot- Woodward Hall Student Lounge, at 6:30, Wednesday night.
Good luck to everyone on your midterms!
Shannon
PS- sorry for the mess of this message. I thought to save time i would do it in between classes, and ended up on a computer with a sticky space key (you should have seen it before I went back and put most of the spaces in!)

10/8/03

Hi Everyone!
First off, I want to send out tons of apologies for not getting the minutes out last week, and for taking so long this week to finally get them out- things have been crazy!

Lets see, where to start...
Ok, the whale watch that we tried to have a few weeks ago was a bust... due to fog and high seas, it was canceled, after we drove all the way to Boston and hung around for awhile.

Major things coming up:
~Thurs Oct 23 and Fri Oct 24- Rhode Island Aquaculture conference.
It will be held at the whispering pines conference center on the West Alton Jones Campus. Thursday it runs from 8-5, friday from 9-4:30.
There is a possibility that we could get in for free if we are willing to volunteer to help out, more details about this to come.
~We have given up on the whale watch idea for this year, we are thinking that we might want to go to mystic for a day. The aquarium will cost roughly $4, the seaport roughly $5. This will probably sometime near the end of octoper, probably the weekend of the 25th. If we dont make that weekend, we'll probably just go to the aquarium sometime in november.
~This weeks meeting will be in the normal meeting place- Woodward Hall Student lounge at 6:30. The speaker that we were going to have will not be able to make it. Hopefully she will be able to come another time.
~There are still jobs available at the Bay campus... see previous minutes for details
~We are considering making a kayaking trip. As of right now we have no details, I'll let you know more when I know.
~As has been mentioned everyweek... we are still planning to go to the North Attleboro Salmon Hatchery. As of last week, we didnt have a date set, but hopefully we will know this week.
~The website- work on it has been going excruciatinly slow... I have to work at in in about 5 min intervals when i find free time... Hopefully one of these weekends i'll be able to just sit down and devote time to getting it fixed up...
Ok, I'm done for now... I'll try not to take this long getting them out from now on...
See you tomorrow!
