Meetings

Minutes: January 27th

Hey Outing Club, how's it goin? I'm fine, thanks for asking.

We're back in our schedules and ready to have a great semester full of stuff. We had a lot of new members this meeting and we hope you will all stick with us. It seems like the best form of outing club advertising is word of mouth so spread the word because more people means more resources and more kickass ideas and trips. We are continuing our dues this semester at the fine cost of $15 for new members and $10 for those returning to us this semester. Joe, having returned victorious from the finance meeting informs us that punch passes this semester will cost $2 again but fortunately we have some "bonus" passes that we can still offer for free. Remember that we have a limit of 2 passes a week per person and you must come pick them up in the office so we can do whole computer thing. You can always come pick passes up during office hours.

Our new workshop program is launching next week. I (Ben) will be hosting the first workshop on knot tying with a focus on climbing knots directly after the meeting. Come on by if your interested.

If you still want a calendar, we are doing a reprint so bring your order and money to the office ASAP so we can get those printed before we lose much more of 2009. Also, Bring t-shirt (and possibly sticker) ideas and we will vote on them at the next meeting.

Ideas for the budget were also discussed. It seems that there is a consensus about some sort of canoe or kayak trip happening in the early spring on the Chipuxet. There was also some talk of a canoe race that would promote awareness about outing club and get others involved. It could also raise a little bit of dough for the club.

We got some new gear!! Along with a few harnesses and carabiners, we also purchased 1 2-man tent, 2 3-man tents, and a food dehydrator (with apples? idk).

With this cool new gear, what makes more sense than opening up a new "Gear Master" position?!?! NOTHING!! So that's what we're doing. The gear master would hold office hours and be in charge of lending, rentals and repairs (and probably some other stuff too). So far Corey, Nicole, and Dave are interested and more are encouraged to run in the elections that will happen next week. (you should probably have some prior knowledge of that sort of stuff if you want to run)

Committees?? any thoughts? at all??? lets hear some feedback is you think breaking up into specialized groups for the purpose of planning trips is a good idea or not. We wont be offended if you think its dumb.

THIS WEEKEND is going to be a hike to Arcadia. We're planning to have the trip Sunday before the super bowl so you can get your exercise and then pig out on potato skins and buffalo wings. I know I'm looking forward to it. We will be meeting at Ronzios in the Union at noon. There was also some brainstorming about a backpacking trip to Yawgoog that would happen weekend after this one. Again, feedback on this would be awesome!

Ice climbing!!! Its new, its scary, its a lot of fun. Ice climbing trips through the rock gym can accommodate 9-10 people so if you're interested, get your name on the list fast. Multiple trips are an option if there is a large enough response. The proposed date was the weekend of Feb. 21st.

Lastly, go climbing! make new friends and get rides with them. Most of the people in outing club will probably not kidnap you. (shut up Tyler)

See you all soon and have a good week!!!
