Hey everyone!
So this past weekend was full of adventures. There was a group of people that went to the RIRG (Rhode Island Rock Gym) Friday night. On Sunday night people went apple picking in the morning and then there was a group that went rock climbing at Pettasquamscutt Rock. It was a wonderful weekend for all.
First of all we covered info about the punch passes to RIRG. To be able to buy them you need to first be a member (by paying the $15 membership fee) and then pay $5 to get on the list to be able to buy passes. Then the passes themselves are $2 a piece and you can buy 2 a week. These passes are only available if you are an active member. (PLEASE PARTICIPATE and not just use us for the passes. it hurts our feelings).
Secondly, dues must be paid to be a member and go on trips where outing club gear is used. Also, we are in the process of getting more gear for club members to use. These will be bought with money from the dues, senate funding, and hopefully a fundraiser event or two. Ideas that were brainstormed were a possible band festival/bake sale. Ideas and opinions are greatly appreciated so feel free to contact us with your ideas. Another idea was a iron chef competition again. These funds were decided to be spent primarily on camping gear since that seems to get the most use. The purchase of a dehydrator was also suggested.
This weekend Corey Morrissey will be leading the camping trip to Arcadia on Friday and Saturday night. If you are interested, contact him at corey_morrissey@mail.uri.edu. Arcadia is only about 18 miles down the road so it is a nice little retreat. You will have to carry your gear into the sites for about a mile, but it is a nice easy hike.
There are some people going to the Nor'easter event in NH this weekend. So far there are 2 full cars, but if you are still interested I recommend talking on the facebook topic at our group site. It is $175 per car (up to 5 people).
The Greylock trip will be during Columbus Day weekend. We will have separate meetings for people interested in that trip. These meetings are mandatory. Our first one will be right after next tuesday's meeting in a room that will be anounced at the meeting. Also, there will be a limited amount of people that can go on this trip due to a limited about of gear we have, rules and regulations about group sizes, and to reduce our footprint.
Last of all we finished up with talking about the joint Wildlife Society/Outing Club canoe trip. Joe Attwater is acting as our go-between. This will be on Sunday, October 5th. More information will be presented at the following meetings.
That's just about it. Thanks and have a great week!
If you have any questions feel free to contact us.
