Punch PassesThe Punch Pass program is available to all undergraduate students of URI and has been around for several years. The purpose of the program is to make indoor rock climbing an affordable sport for anyone interested. The program is managed by the Outing Club and subsidized by the Student Senate. Every semester, the club will buy a limited amount of passes from local rock gyms. Students can then go to the gym, show their student ID, and be let in. All we ask in return is that all participating students contribute $15 in membership dues, $5 to get your name on the list, and participate in other club activities. The passes themselves cost $2 a pass and you are allowed to buy two per week. If you don't know how to climb, IT'S OK! Some of our members are very knowledgeable on rock climbing and will be glad to provide you with free instruction. Do not go to the gym if you have not received instruction from us first though. We may provide free instruction but the gym does not and we do not cover the cost of instruction at the gym. We do have some climbing gear that you can borrow from us but we may not have everything. We have helmets, ropes, harnesses, and belay devices. The pass includes gear and a day pass to the gym. Currently we hold punch passes at these gyms:
Equipment Take-Out
Borrowing gear is easy, but there are a few things that you have to do first. First, there is a registration form to fill out. This is just so we can get your contact info and that you understand our terms and conditions. The second thing is just a one-time $5 fee. Gear rental is an inherent liability on our part and the money goes into our club account to help fund our other activities. If you already paid $15 for membership dues, the rental fee is automatically waived. You can take-out / return gear and fill out the registration form during our office hours. |
