NSSLHA

Involvement in NSSLHA leads to a fuller appreciation of the professions of audiology and speech-language pathology and a greater awareness to the issues affecting these fields.

What is NSSLHA?

The National Student Speech Language and Hearing Association (NSSLHA) is an organization for students interested in the study of communication sciences and disorders. This is the only official national student organization that is recognzied by the professional organization ASHA, the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. http://www.nsslha.org

NSSLHA organizes many campaigns and fundraisers, such as NSSLHA Loves campaign. This campaign raises money each year for a different organization related to the advancement of speech-language pathology and audiology. Each year, members of URISSLHA particpate with this campaign. NSSLHA also provides a large amount of resources for students including ASHA information, a list of graduate school programs in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology, carreer information, financial assistance and scholarships, a variety of publications, undergraduate information, as well as many other topics. How To Join

To become a member of NSSHLA a student must complete a membership application and pay the annual fee of $45 dollars. If you are a student of the University of Rhode Island or plan to be, the University Code to be filled out in the application is RA3919. It is not necessary to be a member of NSSHLA in order to be a member of URISSHLA. Visit http://www.nsslha.org/join to download an application form.

 

ASHA

ASHA "promotes the interests of and provide the highest quality services for professionals in audiology, speech-language pathology, and speech and hearing science, and to advocate for people with communication disabilities."

What is ASHA?

The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) is the professional, scientific, and credentialing association for speech-language pathologists, audiologists, and speech, language, and hearing scientists in the United States and internationally. http://www.asha.org

ASHA is provides excellent resources for carreer and continuing education information and also publishes numerous publications and journals. Asha holds an annual convention called the ASHA Convention where many professionals come to present their research, discuss advances in the fields, and participate in the NSSLHA day where presentations are geared toward students.
