Description: The Independent Scribe is URI's only student-run arts and literature publication, featuring work by URI's creative community, including students, alumni, faculty and staff. We accept submissions of writing from across all genres, including fiction, poetry, creative non-fiction and critical essays, as well as artwork, including photography, scanned drawings or paintings, or anything else that can be published in print. We publish a new edition twice a year, with launch events at the end of every semester, where we invite our contributing artists and writers to read from and discuss their work. All submissions should be emailed to theindependentscribe@gmail.com to be reviewed by the editorial board. Our review process is anonymous and confidential; your name will not be attached to your piece unless we accept it for publication and contact you first. Submissions are accepted on a rolling basis throughout the calendar year; any submissions received after the semester deadline will be automatically be considered for the next semester's edition. All students are also welcome to participate in our editorial board discussions, which are held twice a week during the academic year. For more information, find us on Facebook and Twitter, visit our blog, or send us an email!
