Description: Make It Bright is an organization aimed to directly support the orphans of San Mauricio in Bogota, Colombia. As our mission statement says:
MAKE IT BRIGHT is a University of Rhode Island student-driven group working in tandem with the “Share the Light” project. “Share the Light” was established in 2004 to provide direct support to the orphans of San Mauricio in Bogotá, Colombia. San Mauricio houses orphaned children who were either abandoned by their parents, adjudicated dependent because of their parent’s incarceration or because of the civil war.
San Mauricio is an amazing foundation that provides the food, shelter and the health care for these children that they otherwise would not have. There are many volunteers who dedicate their time to these children who, without them, would have no one else to depend on. But still, the foundation cannot afford to meet all of the children’s needs. These children only own very little second hand clothing and toys.
For the last six years, “Share the Light” has purchased clothing and shoes for all of these children and presented them at a holiday party in December. Each child is given a pair of shoes or sneakers, a package of socks, underwear, a tee shirt, a shirt, a pair of jeans and a sweat-outfit and a small toy or doll. It is estimated that the cost of purchasing these items for the children at a discount department store is approximately $100 per child. MAKE IT BRIGHT is working to support this same cause.
Now it is our turn. MAKE IT BRIGHT is an organization aimed at the Millennial generation to start making a difference. What better way is there than to brighten the future of those less fortunate than us? Our hope is to help these children of San Mauricio have better childhoods, but why stop there? This could be the start to something big, something that is world-wide. With your help we can help Colombia, then the United States, and then who knows? We are the millennial generation; a world of change is at our fingertips
