Academic Excellence

The Academic Excellence programs are designed to help increase the Grade Point Average (GPA) of NSBE strudents. Each semester, NSBE-URI sponsors workshops and sessions on time management, career development and studying/test taking skills.

  Study Jam
The Study Jam was designed to give students both a time and a place to prepare for upcoming exams, ask questions on subject topics they don't understand and study with peers. Students are encouraged to drop by, have refreshments and talk/study with other classmates and tutors.

Pre-College Initiative

The Pre-College Initiative Program is designed to motivate and encourage youth to pursue an interest in science and engineering majors. This year NSBE-URI has worked closely with the Science & Math Investigative Learning Experiences (SMILE) Program to achieve this objective.

Professional Programs

To prepare undergraduates for the corporate world and succeed in their academic career, NSBE-URI engages in many professional programs and activities. These activities include events such as development workshops, where students and corporate represnetatives share their experiences in areas such as resume writining and interviewing techniques. NSBE-URI also has professors and corporate representatives speak to its undergraduates about research and work opportunities as well as provide valuable corporate survival information to our members.

Mentoring

One of the biggest advantages that members of NSBE-URI have is the benefit of knowing students, especially upperclassmen, within their field of study. By sharing knowledge of classes, graduation requirements, professors, and homework, they are able to help undergraduates avoid possible mistakes and keep them on the right track.

Conferences

Each semester, NSBE chapters attend conferences to discuss accomplishments, guage progress in the long-range strategic plan both locally and nationally, and outline future objectives focused toward NSBE's purpose.

  Regional Leadership Conference
The Summer Leadership Conference allows incoming officers to gain better understanding of the duties and responsibilities associated with their position
  Fall/Spring Regional Conference
The Fall/Spring Regional Conferences create an atmosphere of technical development, cultural awareness and networking amongst NSBE members and professionals. This is where members learn more of the NSBE history and are encouraged to become active Zone, Regional and National Members.
  National Convention
The National Convention is the highlight of the year for most NSBE members. It provides members the opportunity to participate in extensive workshops that promote and teach personal and professional development and cultural awareness. This grand event enable future engineers to network with corporate representatives and students from other colleges. This year the National Convention will take place in Pittsburgh, PA from March 29th to April 2nd 2006. This will be a gathering of over 2000 students, 200 technical professionals, 50 companies, and 40 graduate schools.
