Five-year
Goals:
- URI will become a green campus. The Coordinating
Committee recognizes the need to learn about, understand, and acknowledge
good
sustainable practice
at URI.
The Committee also sees the importance of recognizing
and modifying actions and practices that are contrary to good, sustainable
practice. Cost savings
from
sustainable practices should be acknowledged and remain
on
campus, not automatically revert to the State.
- URI will graduate students
who are literate and capable in addressing sustainability. All curricula,
wherever possible, will
reflect the goal of teaching about
sustainability. Deans and Chairs will recognize sustainability
as a legitimate area of teaching,
research, outreach, and career advancement.
- URI will
develop more tools that decision-makers can use in addressing sustainability.
URI has areas where it is
recognized as a leader
in sustainable research,
especially related to coastal issues. This work will
be acknowledged, publicized, and fostered.
