Application Requirements

To apply to Talent Development (TD), the following items must be submitted to the University of Rhode Island's (URI) Office of Undergraduate Admission by December 15:

  • URI Online Common Application: TD applicants must apply online using The Common Application. Applicants must also complete the URI Supplement. Admission to TD is competitive. Apply by the deadline. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
  • TD Application Code: Using the TD code, both pays the application fee and flags the application as TD. High school students may obtain a waiver code from their guidance office. TD/CCRI transfer students and students not currently enrolled in school should contact the TD office at 401-874-2901 to obtain a code. For more information about submitting the code, refer to the Office of Undergraduate Admission.
  • SAT or ACT: Scores must be reported directly to URI from the testing service. Information about these tests is available from high school guidance personnel.
  • Personal Statement: The TD personal statement should not be a generic college application essay. It should be a specific statement to TD that outlines an applicant's background and future goals, and how TD could assist the applicant in reaching those goals. If a student comes from a disadvantaged background, the essay must also include details of any disadvantages that should be considered when reviewing the application. Applicants must submit their narratives using the URI Supplement section of The Common Application.
  • One Letter of Recommendation: Letters of recommendation must be from individuals who know the applicant well and can write about the applicant's background, qualifications, and potential for success. Recommendations cannot be from family members. Letters can be requested electronically via The Common Application or sent directly to the Office of Undergraduate Admission.
  • Official High School Transcript or General Education Development (GED) Scores: It is the applicant's responsibility to request that his/her high school submit an official transcript to the Office of Undergraduate Admission. For applicants currently enrolled in high school, transcripts must include first-quarter senior year grades; mid-year grades should be submitted as soon as they become available. Prospective students who have earned a GED must submit an official copy of their GED scores, along with an official high school transcript of all grades earned in high school. Transfer applicants must submit an official copy of their CCRI transcript as well as their high school transcript or GED scores.
