Transcripts are evaluated within 21 days of a students' acceptance to the University of Rhode Island. All new students accepted into the College of Arts & Sciences, and all new students who are Undeclared in their major, will have their transcripts evaluated by the Transfer Resource Center. *Please note that courses only with a grade of C or better will be considered for transfer.

A review of course content determines how courses are evaluated. All "college level courses" successfully completed at an accredited institution will be determined to meet requirements as either transferable credits, general education credits, or as elective credits.

Once the transcript is posted, we will mail you a welcome letter, along with your transfer credit report.

All other colleges at the University of Rhode Island are responsible for completing transfer credit evaluations for their majors. These include the College of Business, Engineering, Pharmacy, Human Science & Services, Environment Life Sciences, and Nursing. Please contact each college to determine the status of your transfer credit evaluation.

To access your transfer credit evaluation online:

How to Interpret your Transfer Credit Evaluation

There are four different ways how your credits can transfer into the University. Listed below is a detailed explanation of what you might find on your URI transcript.

  1. Course to course equivalency: A course to course equivalency is when a course from another institution matches a specific URI course.

Example:

Community College or RI
=
University of Rhode Island
ENGL 1270 Contemporary Drama   THE 383 History of Modern Theatre

  1. Course to General Education equivalency: A course to general education equivalency is when a course from another institution does not have a direct URI equivalency but still fulfills a general education category.

Example:

Community College of RI
=
University of Rhode Island
HIST 2270 World Religions   RLS 1XL (Religious Studies, 100 level, Letters general education category)

  1. Elective Credit: A course transferring in but does not have a direct URI equivalency and does not fulfill a general education elective.

Example:

Community College of RI
=
University of Rhode Island
SPAN 1000 Basic Spoken Spanish   XXX 1XX (Free elective credit,Course subject does not match URI courses but still warrants college credit)
